Accommodations at Sunset House

Dive Grand Cayman - Sunset House

You're given a number of options for accommodations ranging from courtyard rooms -- a unit opening onto the courtyard – or more appropriate for families -- a roomy apartment that provides extras such as private balconies, two double beds, a full kitchen, and a living room. That’s right, do your own cooking. The most popular are the oceanview rooms which open onto views of the sea and contain more space than the courtyard units. Make sure you request a "signature room" if you are interested in ocean view. They are personally decorated by world-famous underwater photographers! Last on the list there is a spacious suite with a sofa and two queen size beds. All rooms come equipped with cable television, telephones, air-conditioning, private bathrooms, patio or balcony and daily maid service.

And Much Much More!

Dive In Grand Cayman

Amphitrite is a 9-foot tall bronze mermaid and was carefully put underwater at the edge of Sunset Reef. Today she sits in 55' and keeps an ever present watch over the reef. She is a favorite for photo enthusiasts (she is the only creature that seems to stay still for photographers) and makes for great group photos. But take your time and take a long look at her. There are all kinds of growth on her, particularly through her hair! The longer she is down there, the more her beauty comes out!

The David Nicholson

The Nicholson was put in front of Sunset House to attract new and exciting fish life back in 1987. It’s exceeded all expectations! This wreck is now covered and surrounded by life and makes for a great day or night dive.

The wreck lies in 65 FSW and takes about 8-10 minutes to dive from shore. It is the central icon of the Sunset shore dive. It stands vigil at the start of the deep wall and marks a turning point for a nice shallow recreational dive. Combine this with the Mermaid for a great addition to your photo collection!

Nitrox

Anyone wishing to use Nitrox on a dive must be a certified Nitrox diver through a recognized training agency. If you’re not certified, speak to any of the staff and they will make this happen for you. The courses can be completed in an afternoon, sign up at the dive shop.

If you’re already certified, simply show your certification card at the dive shop when you check in and Nitrox can be used during your stay. Nitrox is not included in any of the packages so make sure you verify the details at the dive shop when you arrive.

Cathy Church’s Underwater Photo Center and Gallery

Sunset House is fortunate to have the Cathy Church’s Underwater Photo Center and Gallery right on property. You will see this as soon as you walk in the door, as the main entrance is right across from the front desk. Cathy and her staff teach all levels of photography on ANY camera. They love beginners and enhancing skills and knowledge of experienced who want to improve their underwater photos.

Fresh Water Pool / Jacuzzi

The view from the pool spans just less than 180 degrees including everything from North West Point, 7-Mile Beach, George Town Harbor, and the South West tip of the island. There is nothing quite like it.

The pool and the Jacuzzi are attached so you should have no problem finding them. The water flows through a waterfall from the Jacuzzi located above the pool. The water is not artificially heated but the Cayman average temps are so high that the pool is always 80+ degrees so it is very comfortable.

SeaHarvest Restaurant

Dive In Grand CaymanThe newly renovated SeaHarvest restaurant is located on property beside the pool and the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner menus each day. All of the Dive and Non Dive Packages include a “Full, Order off the Menu Hot Breakfast” which is served at the SeaHarvest restaurant beginning at 7:00 am daily. The restaurant is located conveniently next to the dive shop and adjacent to the complimentary dive lockers, so you can easily move from breakfast to the boats in the morning.

Lunch and dinner is also offered at My Bar where the same menus are available. This way you can have lunch under the thatch roof or sit out under the umbrellas and have a sea side view.

SeaHarvest restaurant has two different sections. First is the air conditioned dining area surrounded by windows for lots of sunlight (where breakfast is served) and a great view of the pool with the Caribbean Sea in the background. The atmosphere is easy and there are no strict dress requirements other than shorts, shirt and shoes.  The second section is the outside patio on the water’s edge.

Here you can enjoy the full menu, check out the stars and breathe the fresh evening air.

My Bar

No visit to Grand Cayman is complete without spending a few hours, at least, at My Bar. Capturing the essence of the tropics, My Bar is a huge open-sided cabana, standing on the water's edge at Sunset House. Looking West, it's the best advantage point imaginable to watch the sun setting in a blaze of glory at the end of the day.

Voted Best Bar in the Caribbean by Caribbean Travel & Life (December 2006 issue), My Bar is one of those places that you "cannot miss"! An island favorite. Go early to get a good spot. Order an infamous "Mudslide" or your favorite libation. Then sit back, relax and prepare to be overwhelmed by Mother Nature's beauty.

Wireless Internet

Sunset House's complimentary wireless high-speed Internet is available at key areas throughout property including the bar and pool area.  If you do not have a laptop or in need of sending an email, Sunset House has free internet in their hospitality room located just off the lobby of the front office.
