More Details

The expedition is a 7 day/6 night live-aboard trip on the expedition vessel MV Freya with start and finish in Tromsø, Northern Norway.

We follow the herring into the Northern fjords of Norway where the Orcas and Humpback Whales will follow the baitballs. With the assistance of local experts and the science community we stay in touch about the where-abouts of the whales. The onboard expert guides will inform you about the behavior of the Orcas, and how to approach the whales in a safe and non-disturbing way. An onboard educational lecture programme about Orca conservation and research and other interesting topics on wildlife will be available.

We use a comfortable liveaboard to be able to stay out in the fjords and during the short days in the winter of Norway we have our warm and cozy hotel with us! Whale watching from the ship or from the zodiacs is a fantastic experience for nature and wildlife lovers.

The lights above the water can be breathtaking beautiful. There is a chance to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). It’s important to remember that Aurora can be a bit of a diva, and she will only start the show when she feels the time is right. The lights are at their most frequent in winter/early spring and you have the best chances of spotting the lights. November will be very good to see the lights but keep in mind that it is always a bonus!

What Else You Need to Know

The time of year we travel to Norway is the best time to see Orcas. But we deal with mother nature & wildlife, and nothing is guaranteed. Chances are quite good in November, and as we travel by boat and follow the whales into other fjords we have the ultimate possibility to see them. However, a flexible attitude is paramount for this expedition and the key to success. It’s all about this one magical moment!

Flights are not included. You need to fly into Oslo, Norway and from there change to a domestic flight to Tromso. You can arrive anytime on November 8th. If you wish assistance with flights, or additional travel arrangements, please contact us.

Please note the sled dog experience depends on a sufficient snow cover. Should there not be sufficient snow, we will substitute the experience with an alternative.

Rates are in CAD, per person, based on double occupancy in a standard cabin, and cash payment. Upgrade to Superior Cabin (queen bed) available at $320CAD/person. There are a few cabins that offer accommodation for a third person, please inquire.
