NEW: Live availability - see below
Come face-to-face with marine iguanas at Cabo Douglas and dive with unique mola mola sunfish at Punta Vicente Rock, then visit the Wolf & Darwin Islands that are famed for their schooling hammerheads. The Majestic Explorer also visits the iconic dive site at Cousin’s Rock (which has made a name for its macro encounters) to create an unforgettable Galapagos dive vacation.
There are eight air-conditioned twin or queen staterooms to select from onboard the Majestic Explorer, all of which feature ensuite bathrooms with showers. The cabins are located on both the main and lower decks and offer ample storage for personal belongings, as well as large windows to take advantage of the Galapagos views.
The menu onboard the Majestic Explorer includes local Ecuadorian dishes and international favourites, with most meals, served buffet style. Begin the day with eggs cooked to order, cereal, toast and fresh fruits, with snacks available in between dives. Lunches and dinners usually feature chicken, beef, pork or fish, accompanied by rice, potatoes and salads.
Special dietary requirements can be catered for with prior notification but guests should be aware that some foods, such as low-fat and soy products, are difficult to find in the Galapagos Islands. Soft drinks, beer and a selection of wines are also available complimentary throughout your Galapagos liveaboard vacation.
The Main Deck of the Majestic Explorer features a contemporary dining space, lounge and entertainment area with a TV and CD/DVD player, together with a well-stocked bar. It’s also here that you’ll find the spacious dive deck and some of the cabins. The top level is home to the Sun Deck, which comprises a large lounge area and partially-covered deck area, together with a jacuzzi where you can relax in between dives.
The Dive Deck onboard the Majestic Explorer is equipped with individual gear bins and tank racks, as well as a camera table, recharging station and a separate fresh water rinse tank for camera equipment. All diving is conducted from two large tenders that can easily be boarded from the Dive Deck using stern ladders and Nitrox is available for a surcharge.
Water temperatures in the Galapagos range from 65-75˚F (18-23˚C) from December through to May and around 60-70˚F (15-21˚C) from June through to November, with most divers comfortable in either a 5mm or 7mm wetsuit during the colder months. Hooded vests and gloves are strongly recommended due to the cold water conditions. A full range of diving equipment is available for rent onboard, with tanks, weights and weights provided complimentarily.
Currents range from 1 to 5 knots at most sites, with visibility generally between 30 and 80 feet (9 to 15 meters). Air temperatures vary from around 65˚F (18˚C) in the dry season (June to November) up to 75˚F (23˚C) during the rainy season (December to May).
The Majestic Explorer is renowned for its highly experienced naturalist guides who will escort you to the world-class dive sites around Cabo Douglas, Cousin’s Rock, Darwin and Wolf Islands. Sightings include schooling hammerheads, Galapagos sharks and sea lions, as well as eagle rays, mola mola and whale sharks (in season). Macro enthusiasts can expect to get up close to seahorses, blennies and hawkfish while marine iguanas and turtles are frequently encountered.
In addition to diving, expeditions onboard the Majestic Explorer include visits to the colonies of blue-footed boobies and frigate birds on North Seymour Island and an excursion into the Santa Cruz Highlands to see wild giant Galapagos tortoises.
