Seven night Truk Odyssey liveaboard cruises depart on Sundays from Weno, the capital of Truk, and explore the myriad of photogenic wreck sites that are scattered within close proximity across the Truk Lagoon.

Accommodation

The Truk Odyssey liveaboard offers nine luxury staterooms, all of which are fully carpeted, have individually-controlled air conditioning, personal DVD players and a 32” monitor. All have en-suite bathrooms with a private toilet, shower and sink, as well as windows or large portholes offering ocean views.

King or Twin Bed Staterooms
There are seven spacious (14’ x 8’) staterooms with either a king size bed or two twin beds, ideal for couples or divers traveling together.

Private Single Staterooms
There are two private single staterooms (11’ x 6’) which are perfect for divers traveling alone and boast the same features as the double rooms.

Dining

On the Truk Odyssey liveaboard, you will dine in style within their air conditioned dining salon which offers spectacular views across the islands of the Truk Lagoon. It has been furnished with Fijian teak tables and a coconut wood bar, and is serviced by a commercial galley. This is equipped with stainless steel working areas, a 6-burner stove and commercial refrigeration which allow the Truk Odyssey liveaboard chefs to create cuisine of a surprisingly high quality.

Meals are served in a relaxed buffet style, with a range of hot and cold dishes for each meal. Breakfasts include a hot meal selection, accompanied by cereals, toast, fruit and juice, while dinners feature hearty hot dishes, finished off with delicious desserts. Lunches are more informal buffet meals, with snacks also served throughout the day and between dives so you never go hungry.

Some special dietary requirements can be catered for on the Truk Odyssey liveaboard with advance notice.

Amenities

Between dives you can relax on the Truk Odyssey liveaboard’s spacious deck, with sun loungers, deck chairs and a shaded area where you can enjoy the views without sun exposure. This is also where all dive briefings are held throughout the seven night Truk Lagoon liveaboard cruise.

At the end of an exhilarating day diving, the Truk Odyssey liveaboard’s entertainment lounge is the perfect place to relax. It comes complete with a TV and DVD player (including around 300 DVD titles to choose from), as well as a stereo system and library to peruse a good selection of marine-oriented literature. There are board games and cards to challenge you and your fellow divers, and a bar fridge with a good selection of beverages, including complimentary beer, wine and spirits.

In addition to a spacious dive platform (13’ x 6’), there are freshwater showers to rinse off after dives, as well as camera rinse tanks and gear rinse tanks on both sides of the boat. There is also a large, three-tiered photo table for underwater photographers to work from and battery charging stations for all equipment.

If you are interested in taking photo or video courses, these can also be arranged with the Truk Odyssey’s dive professionals during your Truk Lagoon liveaboard cruise.

Diving from the Truk Odyssey Liveaboard

The stunning Truk Lagoon is considered one of the world’s best shipwreck diving destination, with more than 100 WWII ships, planes and submarines strewn across 77 square miles. The skeletons of this underwater museum are covered in more than 300 varieties of both hard and soft corals, with beautiful coral gardens dispersing from these artificial reefs. In addition to a huge diversity of tropical fish, gorgonian sea fans and eagle rays along its mountainous outer reef, there are also occasional sightings of pelagic sharks.

Water temperatures range from 82 to 84° F (26 to 28°C), meaning that a 3mm wetsuit or shorty is more than comfortable. Most of the dive sites are within recreational dive limits (50-120 feet/15-40 meters) and the islands and fringing coral reef provide a natural barrier from strong currents.

Most of the dive sites are easily accessed from the Truk Odyssey mothership as it is moored above, meaning ease of access and no loading/unloading of dive gear. Private seats and individual dive lockers mean that once you assemble your gear, you won’t have to take it apart until the end of the cruise. Tanks are conveniently filled at your private seat and Nitrox is available free of charge.

On a typical day there are two dives in the morning, with the option to dive again after lunch and/or in the late afternoon. Night dives are also available after dinner, or you can just relax in the entertainment lounge while reviewing the day’s photos and videos.

Technical divers are well catered for on the Truk Odyssey liveaboard, including double aluminum 80 tank systems with dual isolation manifold, oxygen available for decompression stops (additional charge), decompression tanks (aluminium 30s), as well as a fixed decompression bar at 15 feet (5 meters). While Nitrox is free of charge, all other mixtures are charged at $2 per cubic foot of oxygen. An Extended Range Certification or similar is required for technical diving onboard, as well as a technical buoyancy compensator, twin regulator setups and dive insurance.
