The Upper Deck also includes an indulgent hot tub, together with a bar where you can grab a drink and mingle with fellow divers. Both kayaks and paddle boards are available for guests to explore above the water’s surface, while the expansive bow space is the perfect place to catch a glimpse of dolphins surfing the vessel’s wake.

Diving

Nautilus liveaboards have more than 25 years experience offering big animal dive encounters and their expeditions to Socorro and Guadalupe onboard the Nautilus Undersea continue this tradition. The clear, calm waters of Guadalupe Island are famed for their great white sharks, ranging in size from 12 to 19 feet (3.5 to 6 meter). Nautilus liveaboards use submersible cages which descend down to 30 feet (9 meters) where the sharks are known to congregate, with a minimum of three dives offered each day and unlimited time in surface cages.

Visibility normally ranges from 125 to 150 feet (38 to 45 meters), with great whites encountered here throughout the year. July and August are known for aggressive gangs of male sharks, while October and November see females arrive at Guadalupe. Water temperatures range from around 68°F (20°C) in winter to 72°F (22°C) in summer and divers with little experience can participate due to the caged setting.

Nautilus Undersea also ventures to Socorro Island in the Revillagigedo archipelago which lies around 370 miles (600 kilometers) off Mexico’s west coast. It is renowned for its 12 to 16 foot (3.5 to 5 meter) manta rays which interact intimately with divers – locking eyes, swimming overhead to be tickled by bubbles and hovering alongside or beneath divers. Humpback whales are also known to frequent these waters, together with hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks, dolphins and the occasional thresher shark.

Nautilus liveaboards to Socorro include up to four dives per day, with visibility normally ranging from around 70-100 feet (20 to 30 meters). However, when currents increase, volcanic ash levels rise and can reduce visibility to around 30 feet (9 meters). Giant mantas are encountered throughout the year, while humpbacks visit from January through to April.

Dives are conducted from either a 25-foot fibreglass dive boat or a 32-foot aluminum skiff, with nitrox available for certified divers at an additional charge. Tanks with both DIN and INT valves are provided (15-liter tanks are available at an extra cost), together with weight belts and weights, while other dive gear can be rented for the duration of the Nautilus liveaboard trip.
