With just seven spacious bungalows to choose from, the Sorido Bay Resort is an exclusive Raja Ampat dive resort on the picturesque island of Kri, which lies just two hours by boat from Sorong. It nestles in a lush jungle overlooking a curving lagoon, with the sounds of birds greeting you each morning. The resort has been constructed using locally sourced materials and plays an important role in conserving the surrounding marine environment.

Sorido Bay Resort is just a stone’s throw from the legendary dive site at Cape Kri where Dr. Allen recorded a staggering 374 different species of reef fish in a single dive. It’s a short boat ride from many of Raja Ampat’s premier dive sites while offering modern amenities so you don’t have to compromise on comfort. The Sorido Bay Resort shares Kri Island with the budget-friendly Kri Eco Resort, which is also operated by Papua Diving.

Diving

Raja Ampat is renowned for its marine biodiversity and the Sorido Bay Resort boasts an excellent location for exploring the archipelago’s dive sites. More fish, coral, and mollusk species have been recorded in the region than anywhere else on the planet and there are dive sites ranging from sandy bays to plunging walls and current-swept drifts.
While diving can be done in the Dampier Strait throughout the year, the peak season in Raja Ampat is from October to April when the plankton concentrations lure big pelagics. Visibility generally ranges from 15 to 30 meters and the water temperatures hover around 82°F (28°C).
Most guests are comfortable in a 3mm wetsuit, but if you don’t want to bring your own, wetsuits in all sizes, along with fins, masks, and Suunto dive computers can be rented. The Sorido Bay Resort also has a full line of high-quality Aqualung BCDs and regulators for guests to hire. Nitrox is provided free of charge for certified “Enriched Air” divers and dive insurance is mandatory for all guests.
More than 30 dive sites are located within a short boat ride of this Raja Ampat dive resort and three daily guided boat dives are conducted each day. All of the Sorido Bay Resort’s boats are fitted with emergency oxygen, first aid kits, and GPS devices for your peace of mind. Night dives are also offered on select evenings and guests are welcome to participate in unguided diving from the resort jetty at their leisure.
A range of PADI courses are available with the Sorido Bay Resort’s experienced instructors if you are looking to up-skill. Please note that diving is not offered between 6 pm on Friday and 6 pm on Saturday to allow the resort’s dive instructors and guides to de-gas.
Other activities
If you’re traveling with non-diving family members or looking for something to do on “no-dive” Saturdays, you can take advantage of the exceptional snorkeling on the Sorido Bay Resort’s house reef. Kayaks and standup paddleboards are available for free if you want to explore the surrounding coastline and a range of native wildlife, including furry cuscuses (nocturnal marsupials), monitor lizards, and coconut crabs can be spotted on strolls around the resort. Birdwatching cruises are also offered each Saturday and include a short hike to see Raja Ampat’s endemic red bird of paradise.
